#7 Cowboys Edge Out Metro State Roadrunners 4-3 in Extra Innings

The #7 NMHU Cowboys edged out the Metro State Roadrunners by a final score of 4-3 on 5/6 in a thrilling 10 inning nail biter. The Cowboys took an early 3-0 lead on the Roadrunners, but the Roadrunners would mount an eighth inning comeback to tie up the game at three runs apiece. Each team would have a scoreless ninth and in the tenth the Cowboys pitching stable would hold the Roadrunners scoreless and Kyle Gutchewsky would score the game winning run off a Christian Garcia single to help the Cowboys to advance to the RMAC Semi-Finals. With the loss, the Metro State Roadrunners were eliminated from the RMAC Tournament. The Cowboys are now 37-10 on the season. The Cowboys will now await their next opponent as they will face the winner of the nightcap between the Mesa State Mavericks and the University of Nebraska-Kearney Lopers at 11:00 am CST on 5/7.

The Cowboys finished the day with a .300 team batting average and no extra base hits for the first time in the 2010 season. The Cowboys struggled with the Metro State pitching, but would pull through for the win.

Drew Vassil (12-1) got the start for the Cowboys, but did not get the win as the Roadrunners mounted a late comeback to negate the win. Vassil allowed just three runs on nine hits in eight innings pitched while recording four strikeouts along the way. Derek Grieve would come in for relief of Vassil and would allow no runs and no hits in two-thirds of an inning pitched. Tyler Wichmann (4-0) would get the win for the Cowboys as he allowed no hits and no runs in one and one-third innings pitched while recording one strikeout on the day.

Outstanding players for the Cowboys include: Christian Garcia and Danny Brown. Garcia finished the day going 2-5 with one run scored and one RBI. Brown finished the day going 3-4.

The Cowboys will now await their next opponent as they will face the winner of the nightcap between the Mesa State Mavericks and the University of Nebraska-Kearney Lopers at 11:00 am CST on 5/7.
