Cowboys Run Past Greyhounds 3-1

The NMHU Cowboys defeated the Eastern New Mexico University Greyhounds 3-1 on 3/15 in Portales, N.M. The Cowboys would strike first scoring one run in the fourth inning, but the Greyhounds would answer back with a score in the seventh inning to knot the score up at one apiece. The Cowboys would then rally in the eighth inning as Justin Kaid would knock two runs in with a single down the left field line to make the score 3-1. Both teams would go scoreless in the ninth inning as the Cowboys ran away with the 3-1 win. With the win, the Cowboys are now 8-8 on the season.

The Cowboys would finish the day with a .294 team batting average and two doubles. Angel Nunez, Luis Saenz and Erik Scott would have the high numbers for the Cowboys from the plate. Nunez finished the day 1-3 with one RBI. Saenz finished 2-5 with one double and Scott finished the day 2-3 with two runs scored and one double.

Edgar Vela got the start for the Cowboys on the mound. Vela allowed just two hits and no runs while striking out six batters in five and two third innings pitched. Richard Sandoval (1-0) would come in for Vela and earn the win for the Cowboys as he allowed no earned runs on one hit and struck out one ENMU batter in one and two third innings pitched. Cruz Sedillo would then come in for Sandoval and allow no runs and no hits while striking out one batter in two thirds of an inning pitched. Jared Bowser would earn his second save of the season as he allowed no runs and no hits while striking out two Greyhound batters in the ninth inning to secure the win for the Cowboys.

The Cowboys will hit the road again as they travel to Lakewood, Colo. to take on the Colorado Christian Cougars for a four game RMAC series on 3/18.
