Cowboys Take Two from Cougars

The NMHU Cowboys dropped the Colorado Christian Cougars in the first two games of their four game RMAC series 11-2 and 6-5 on 3/18. The Cowboys jumped out early on the Cougars in game one 5-2 after the first six innings and would score six unanswered runs late in the game to solidify the 11-2 win. Game two would be a bit closer as the Cowboys held off a late rally by the Cougars in the bottom of the seventh inning to secure the 6-5 win to complete the day one sweep of the Cougars. With the wins the Cowboys improve to 10-8 on the season and 5-5 in RMAC play.

Trent Evins (2-3) got the start and the win for the Cowboys in game one with a dominating performance on the mound. Evins allowed just four hits and two runs while striking out six CCU batters in eight innings pitched. Xavier Tavorn would come in for relief of Evins and continue the great pitching effort for the Cowboys as he allowed no runs and no hits while striking out two CCU batters in one inning pitched.

The Cowboys finished the game with a .333 team batting average. The Cowboys would also hit one double, one triple and a homerun in game one. A.J. Alexander and Clay Mohr would lead the Cowboys offensively in game one. Alexander finished the day 3-5 with three runs scored, two RBI's and a homerun. Mohr would finish 2-4 with one RBI, one double and one triple.

Kyle Sayers (3-1) would get the win on the mound for the Cowboys in game two. Sayers would allow five runs on eight hits while striking out seven CCU batters in six innings pitched. Eric Maupin would come in for relief of Sayers and get his first save of the season for the Cowboys in the process. Maupin would allow one hit and no runs while striking out one CCU batter in the final inning of the game to hold off the late CCU rally and secure the win for the Cowboys.

The Cowboys finished game two with a .285 team batting average. The Cowboys would add in one double to their offensive numbers in game two. Thomas King and J.P. Hollywood would lead the Cowboys in offensive numbers for the game. King finished the day going 2-4 with one runs scored, one RBI and one double. Hollywood would finish the day going 2-3 with one run scored.

The Cowboys look to continue their winning ways on 3/19 as they take on the Cougars for games three and four of their RMAC series in Lakewood, Colo. First pitch is scheduled for 12:00 p.m.
