Cowboys Rally Past Cougars 18-17

The NMHU Cowboys staged a late comeback to edge out the Colorado Christian Cougars 18-17 on 3/19. The Cowboys would score five runs in the final innings to pull ahead of the Cougars and win their third straight game on the weekend. In their final game of the weekend the Cowboys and Cougars would end the seventh inning tied at 14 apiece, but would have to suspend the game due to lack of daylight. The Cowboys and Cougars will finish their tied game on 5/6 when the Cougars visit the Cowboys for the Cowboys final regular season RMAC series. With the win, the Cowboys improve to 11-8 on the season and 6-5 in RMAC play.

Greg Fowler would get the start for the Cowboys on the mound. Fowler would allow four runs on one hit and strikeout five batters in one and two third innings pitched. Edgar Vela would then come in for Fowler and allow six runs on four hits and strikeout three batters in three and one third innings pitched. Alec New would then come in and allow three runs on no hits in two thirds of an inning pitched. Richard Sandoval would then come in and allow three runs on three hits and strikeout two batters in one and one third innings pitched. Cruz Sedillo would then come in and allow no runs on one hit and strikeout one CCU batter in two innings pitched. Jared Bowser (1-0) would get the win for the Cowboys when all was said and done by holding the Cougars to one run on two hits while striking out one Cougar batter in one inning pitched.

As a team the Cowboys finished the game with a .416 batting average. The Cowboys would add in three homeruns to their offensive effort for the game. Justin Kaid, A.J. Alexander and Cole Davis led the Cowboys for the game. Kaid had a great game at the plate going 4-7 with three runs scored, four RBI's, one double and one homerun. Alexander finished 4-5 with four runs scored, three RBI's and two doubles. Davis rounds out the top three by going 3-5 with two RBI's and one double.

The Cowboys will be in action again on 3/22 when they host in-state rival Eastern New Mexico University. First pitch is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
