Cowboys Split in Day Two Action with CSU-Pueblo

The NMHU Cowboys split in day two action against the Thunderwolves of CSU-Pueblo on 3/26. The Cowboys would fall in game one 14-6, but would regroup in game two to win 4-1 behind some impressive work on the mound by the Cowboy pitching staff. The Cowboys are now 12-10 on the season and 7-7 in RMAC play. The Cowboys will look to even their RMAC series with the Thunderwolves on 3/26 as they take the field for game four at 12:00 p.m. in Las Vegas, N.M.

Kyle Sayers (3-2) would get the start for the Cowboys in the first game of the day. Sayers would allow six runs one 10 hits and strikeout four batters in five and one-third innings pitched. Richard Sandoval would come in for Sayers and allow no earned runs (CSU-Pueblo would score six unearned runs) on three hits and strikeout on Pueblo batters in two-thirds of an inning pitched. Antonio Huez Robles would then come in for the final inning and allow two runs on one hit in in one inning pitched.

The Cowboys would finish the game with a .322 batting average in the 14-6 loss. The Cowboys would add in one double and one triple in the game. Erik Scott, Thomas King and Eric Maupin would lead the way for the Cowboys in game one. Scott would finish the day going 2-3 with two runs scored, one RBI ad one triple. King would finish the day 2-3 with two runs scored and one RBI. Maupin would round out the top three finishing 2-4with one RBI and one double.

In game two Jason Sirak (2-2) would get the start and win for the Cowboys as the Cowboys defeated the Thunderwolves 4-1. Sirak would allow one run on four hits and strikeout four CSU-Pueblo batters in five innings pitched. Xavier Tavorn would come in for relief of Sirak and allow no runs and no hits in one inning pitched. Jared Bowser would earn his fourth save of the season and he threw a shutout seventh inning allowing no runs and no hits to seal the win for the Cowboys.

The Cowboys would finish with a .409 batting average in game two en route to their 12th win of the season. The Cowboys would add in two doubles and one stolen base in the win. Eric Maupin, Clay Mohr and Will Cote would lead the Cowboys offensively for the game. Maupin would finish 2-3 with one run scored and two RBI's. Mohr would finish 2-2 with one run scored, one RBI and one double. Will Cote would round out the top performers by going 1-2 with one RBI.

The Cowboys will look to even the series with the Thunderwolves on 3/26 as they take the field for game four in Las Vegas, N.M. First pitch is scheduled for 12:00 p.m.
