The NMHU Cowboys earned a series split with CSU-Pueblo after a 13-1 win over the Thunderwolves on 3/27. The Cowboys jumped out early 1-0 on the Thunderwolves and would add to their lead with a four run fifth inning to lead 5-0. The Thunderwolves would score one run in the seventh inning to make the score 5-1, but the Cowboys would answer back with a eight run seventh inning to seal the Cowboys 13-1 lead over the Thunderwolves and split the series at two games apiece. With the win the Cowboys improve to 13-10 overall and 8-7 in RMAC play.
Greg Fowler (3-1) improved to three wins on the season with a dominating seven inning performance over the Thunderwolves. Fowler would allow no earned runs (CSU-Pueblo would score one unearned run) on two hits and strikeout eight CSU-Pueblo batters in seven complete innings pitched.
Edgar Vela would then come in for the Cowboys and held the Thunderwolves scoreless and allowed no runs on one hit and struck out one batter in two innings pitched to seal the win for the Cowboys.
The Cowboys finished the game with a .435 team batting average. The Cowboys would add in three double and one inside the park homerun on the day.
A.J. Alexander, Justin Kaid and
Eric Maupin would lead the Cowboys offense on the day. Alexander finished the day a perfect 5-5 with two runs scored, four RBI's, one double and one homerun. Kaid finished 3-4 with one run scored and two RBI's. Maupin would round out the top three going 3-5 with two runs scored, four RBI's and one double.
The Cowboys will hit the road on 4/1 to Grand Junction, Colo. to take on their next opponent, the Mavericks of Mesa State College. First pitch against Mesa State College is set for 7:00 p.m.
