The NMHU Cowboys were swept by the Regis Rangers in games two and three of their four game series on 3/5 by scores of 8-5 and 3-0. The Cowboys would take a 5-0 lead in game one for the day, but would falter late as the Rangers would score eight unanswered runs late in the game. In game two of the day, both teams' pitchers would have excellent outings as both teams were scoreless through the first five innings. The Rangers would draw first blood as they scored three runs off of some costly errors by the Cowboys in the sixth inning. The three runs would hold up for the Rangers to secure the 3-0 win. With the loss the Cowboys are now 4-6 on the season and 0-3 in RMAC play.
In the first game of the day, the Cowboys bats would come alive early as the Cowboys would jump out to a 5-0 lead after the first two innings of play. The Cowboys would eventually fall to the Rangers in game one 8-5 as the Rangers would score eight runs late in the game. The Cowboys would finish the game with a .346 team batting average. The Cowboys would also add in four doubles and one homerun to their offensive numbers.
Luis Saenz and JP Hollywood would have the high numbers for the Cowboys in the game. Saenz finished the day going 3-4 with one run scored and one RBI. Saenz had a great day at the plate as he finished 2-3 with one run scored, three RBI's, one double and his first homerun of the season.
Kyle Sayers (2-1) got the start for the Cowboys in game one of the double header and would drop his first game of the season. Sayers finished the day allowing six runs on nine hits and racked up a season high 12 strikeouts while walking no batters in five and two-third innings pitched.
Jared Bowser would come in for relief of Sayers and allow two runs on two hits while retiring one batter in one and one-third innings pitched.
In the second game of the doubleheader the Cowboys finished with a .259 team batting average with one triple.
Eric Maupin had the high numbers for the Cowboys in game as he finished going 2-3 for the game.
Greg Fowler (1-1) got the start for the Cowboys in game two and would suffer defeat for the first time this season. Fowler would allow one earned run on three hits while striking out nine batters in five and one-third innings pitched.
Eric Maupin would come in for relief of Fowler and allow no runs on no hits and strikeout one batter in one and two-third innings pitched.
The Cowboys will take on the Rangers in the final game of their RMAC series on 3/6 in Las Vegas, N.M. First pitch is set for 12:00 p.m.
