The NMHU Cowboys unloaded on the Rangers of Regis University as they swept day two action 8-3 and 7-2 on 4/22. The Cowboys are now on a four game winning streak headed into the final game of their four game series with the Rangers. The Cowboys used some big offensive innings followed up by excellent outings by their pitching staff to defeat the Rangers. With the wins the Cowboys improve to 19-20 on the season and 13-17 in RMAC play.
Game one of the day featured great pitching as well as an awesome offensive performance by the Cowboys. The Cowboys finished with a team batting average of .366 for game one. The Pokes would add in one triple and two homeruns to their offensive numbers.
Eric Maupin,
Clay Mohr and
Rick Lesperance led the Cowboys in game one offensively. Maupin finished 2-2 with two runs scored, three RBI's and one homerun.
Clay Mohr would finish 2-4 with two runs scored and one RBI. Lesperance would round out the top three performers going 2-4 with one run scored and one RBI.
Erik Scott would add to the offensive effort with a solo homerun for the Cowboys.
Jason Sirak (3-4) would get the start and the win on the mound for the Cowboys with a complete game performance. Sirak would hold the Rangers to three runs on six hits and strikeout six batters in seven innings pitched. This is the Sirak's first complete game win of the season.
Game two of the day would be more of the same as the Cowboys would finish with a .346 team batting average. The Cowboys would add in two double and one triple to the offensive performance.
A.J. Alexander,
Luis Saenz and
Jordan Chavez would lead the way for the Cowboys in game two offensively. Alexander would finish 3-4 with one run scored and two doubles. Saenz would finish 2-4 with one run scored, one RBI and one triple. Chavez would round out the top three going 2-3 with one run scored.
Chris Waha (1-1) would get the start and the win for the Cowboys on the mound. Waha would allow two runs (one earned) on six hits and strikeout seven batters in four and two-third innings pitched.
Cruz Sedillo would then come in for relief of Waha and allow one hit and no runs while striking out one batters in two-thirds of an inning pitched.
Richard Sandoval would close out the game for the Cowboys and he allowed no runs on two hits and struck out two batters in one and two-third innings pitched.
The Cowboys will look to secure their second series sweep of the season on 4/23 when they take on the Rangers of Regis University for game four of their four game series. First pitch is scheduled for 12:00 p.m. in Denver, Colo.
