Cowboys Swept in Day Two Action

The NMHU Cowboys were swept in day two action by the Roadrunners of Metro State College on 4/9 by final scores of 18-8 and 11-8. The Cowboys would lead in game two of the day going into the seventh inning, but the Roadrunners would score six runs in the top of the seventh inning to pull ahead of the Cowboys and never look back as they would win 11-8 in the second game of the day. With the losses the Cowboys fall to 15-16 on the season and 9-13 in RMAC play.

In the first game of the day the Cowboys would struggle with Metro State early as they would score nine runs to the Cowboys three runs in the first three innings of play. The Roadrunners offense would overwhelm the Cowboys in game one and cruise to the 18-8 win. The Cowboys would finish game on with a .269 team batting average. Clay Mohr and Eric Maupin would lead the Cowboys offensively in game one. Mohr would finish game one 2-3 with one run scored and two RBI's. Maupin would finish the game 2-4 with four RBI's and a base clearing double.

Kyle Sayers (4-3) would get the start for the Cowboys and be credited with the loss. Sayers would allow nine runs on seven hits and strikeout two batters in two and two-third innings pitched. Chris Waha would the come in for relief of Sayers and allow no hits and no runs while striking out one batter in one-third of an inning pitched. Alec New would the come in for Waha and allow six runs on six hits and strikeout one Metro State batter in one inning pitched. Antonio Huez Robles would then come in and allow three runs (two runs earned) on four hits in three innings pitched.

Game two would be an up and down battle between both teams throughout its entirety. Metro State would ride a six run rally in the top of the seventh inning to snatch victory out from under the Cowboys as the Cowboys would lead 8-5 going into the seventh inning. Metro State pitcher Ty Jacobs would close out the game for the Roadrunners to ensure their 11-8 win in game three of the series. The Cowboys would finish game two of the day with a .333 team batting average. A.J. Alexander, Erik Scott and Thomas King led the Cowboys offensively in game two. Alexander finished the game 3-4 with two runs scored and one RBI. Scott finished 2-5 with three RBI's and a triple. King would finish the game going 1-2 with two runs scored, three RBI's and his first homerun of the season.

Jason Sirak would get the start on the mound for the Cowboys. Sirak would allow five runs on five hits while striking out one Metro State batter in five innings pitched. Richard Sandoval would then come in for Sirak and shut down the Roadrunners allowing no runs on two hits and striking out one batter in one inning pitched. Jared Bowser (0-1) would come in for the Cowboys and be credited with the loss. Bowser would allow six runs on six hits and strikeout one batter in one inning pitched.

The Cowboys will take on the Roadrunners for game four of their RMAC series on 4/10 in Las Vegas N.M. First pitch is scheduled for 12:00 p.m.
