Cowboys Eliminate Regis from RMAC Tourney 7-2

The NMHU Cowboys eliminated the Rangers of Regis University from the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Baseball Tournament on 5/13 by a final score of 7-2. The Cowboys and the Rangers would battle early on in the elimination game, but a solo homerun by NMHU's Erik Scott would put the Cowboys in the lead for good. With the win the Cowboys advance in the RMAC Tournament and will now wait to see who their next opponent will be depending on the outcomes of the other RMAC Tournament games. The Cowboys will play their next opponent in the tournament on 5/14 at 3:30 p.m.

The Cowboys would jump out early on the Rangers 2-0 in the second inning as Clay Mohr would score off a Jarod Robinette double and Robinette would score off a balk by the Regis pitcher. The Rangers would answer back scoring one run in the third and fourth innings to tie the score 2-2. In the fifth inning NMHU's Erik Scott would hammer a ball over the left field wall to put the Cowboys in the lead 3-2. In the sixth inning Clay Mohr would score off a Thomas King single through the left side. The Cowboys would also take advantage of a wild pitch by the Regis pitcher to score more runs to catapult the Cowboys to a 7-2 lead. The Cowboys pitching staff would hold the Rangers scoreless for the final five innings of the game.

Jason Sirak (5-5) would get the start and the win for the Cowboys on the mound. Sirak would allow two runs on nine hits while striking out six batters in five and two-third innings pitched. Chris Waha would get his first save of the season as he came in for relief of Sirak. Waha would shut down the Rangers as he allowed no runs on one hits and struck out four batters in three and one-third innings pitched.

Offensively the Cowboys finished the day with two doubles and one homerun in the game. Erik Scott, Clay Mohr and Thomas King would have the high numbers for the Cowboys on the day. Scott finished up the day a perfect 3-3 with two runs scored, one RBI and one homerun. Mohr finished 2-4 with two runs scored and one double. King would finish 2-4 with one run scored and one RBI. Jarod Robinette would add in an RBI double to the Cowboys stats for the day.

The Cowboys will now wait to see who their next opponent will be in the RMAC Tournament. The Cowboys will play again on 5/14 at 3:30 p.m. in Grand Junction, Colo.
