The NMHU Cowboys took three games from the Cougars of Colorado Christian University on 5/5 in the opening games of the final RMAC series of the regular season. The Cowboys would roll past the Cougars winning 17-14, 17-5 and 17-2 on the day. The Cowboys first win of the day came from the completion of a game that had gotten postponed from 3/19 as
Clay Mohr would hammer a ball out of the park for a three run homerun to take the 17-14 lead. The Cowboys pitching would shut down the Cougars in the bottom of the inning to secure the win. With their three wins on the day, the Cowboys improve to 23-24 on the season and 17-21 in RMAC play.
In game on the Cowboys would produce an offensive showcase as they would rack up five doubles, three triples and one homerun. The Cowboys were led offensively by
Erik Scott and
Clay Mohr. Scott would finish 2-5 with two runs scored, two RBI's, one double and one homerun. Mohr would have the high numbers for the game finishing 4-5 with two runs scored, four RBI's and one triple.
Trent Evins (4-7) would complement the Cowboys offensive prowess with a commanding performance on the mound in his fourth win of the season. Evins would allow five runs scored on 10 hits and strikeout four CCU batters in six and two-third innings pitched.
Richard Sandoval would then come in and allow no runs on two hits and strikeout one batter in one and one-third innings pitched.
Antonio Huez Robles would then close out the game for the Cowboys as he held the Cougars scoreless and hitless while striking out one batter in one inning pitched.
Game two for the Pokes' would be more of the same as the Cowboys produced both offensively accompanied by lights out pitching. The Cowboys' bats would continue to produce as they hit three doubles and two triples in the game.
Erik Scott,
Ben Swisher,
Clay Mohr and
Jarod Robinette would all have high numbers for the Cowboys. Scott would finish 4-4 with three runs scored, three RBI's and one triple. Swisher would finish 3-3 with one RBI. Mohr would finish 3-3 with four runs scored, one RBI and one triple. Robinette would round out the top performers finishing 3-4 with three runs scored, three RBI's and one double.
Jason Sirak (4-5) dominated on the mound in his fourth win of the season. Sirak would allow two runs scored on three hits while striking out three CCU batters in six innings pitched.
Alec New would close out the game for the Cowboys as he shut down the Cougars allowing no runs and no hits in one inning pitched.
The Cowboys will take the diamond for the final time their regular season as they close out their RMAC series with the CCU Cougars on 5/6. First pitch is scheduled for 12:00 p.m. in Las Vegas, N.M.
