The NMHU Cowboys continued their winning ways as they completed their season sweep of the Cougars of Colorado Christian University with two victories on 5/6. The Cowboys would defeat the Cougars 7-1 in the first game of the day and 12-0 in the second game of the day. The wins came on NMHU's Senior Day as the Cowboys sent their six outgoing seniors on a winning note. The Cowboys honored six seniors who played in their final home game of their career. Cowboy seniors include:
Steven Becerra,
Scott Fackrell,
Kyle Sayers,
Jarod Robinette,
Cruz Sedillo and
Trent Evins. With the wins the Cowboys improve to 25-24 on the season and 19-21 in RMAC play.
In game one the Cowboys would rely on a lights out performance by their pitching staff.
Chris Waha (2-2) would dominate on the mound as he held the Cougars to one run on four hits and strikeout six batters in seven and one third innings pitched.
Xavier Tavorn would then come in for Waha and hold the Cougars scoreless and allow one hit in one third of an inning pitched.
Cruz Sedillo would then come in and close out the game for the Cowboys as he shut down the Cougars allowing no hits and no runs in one and one third inning pitched.
Offensively the Cowboys would finish game one with one double and one triple en route to their 7-1 win.
Clay Mohr and
Luis Saenz would have the high numbers for the Cowboys in game one. Mohr would finish the game 3-4 with two runs scored, two RBI's, one double and one triple. Saenz would finish 2-5 with one run scored and two RBI's.
Game two would feature both great pitching and hitting performances by the Cowboys. Offensively the Cowboys would finish game two with three doubles and two triples.
Erik Scott,
Ben Swisher and
Clay Mohr would have the high numbers for the Cowboys in game two. Scott would finish 2-4 with one run scored, three RBI's, one double and one triple. Swisher would finish 2-3 with two runs scored, one RBI and one triple. Mohr would finish 2-3 with two run scored. Seniors,
Scott Fackrell and
Trent Evins would both finish out their careers at NMHU by going 1-1 in the game with a double each.
Edgar Vela (3-3) would get the win on the mound for the Cowboys with a commanding performance. Vela would hold the Cougars scoreless allowing four hits while striking out three batters in five innings pitched.
Richard Sandoval would then come in for Vela and continue the domination of the Cougars as he held CCU hitless and scoreless in one inning pitched.
Jared Bowser would secure the shutout of the Cougars as he held CCU hitless and scoreless while striking out one batter in one inning pitched for the 12-0 win.
The NMHU Cowboys end their 2011 regular season with a 25-24 overall record and a 19-21 RMAC record. The Cowboys will now wait to see who their opponent in the RMAC Tournament will be as they secured their spot in the tourney with their sweep over CCU.
