Cowboys Crush OPSU Aggies 60-14 in Home Opener

The NMHU Cowboys ran through the Aggies of Oklahoma Panhandle State University in their 2011 home opener by a final score of 60-14 on 9/10 in front of a raucous home crowd of 3,500+. With a 2-0 record, the 2011 Cowboys are off to their best start since the 2006 season when the Cowboys also started out the season 2-0. The 60-14 win over OPSU is the largest margin of victory for the Cowboys since the 2006 squad blanked Paul Quinn University 24-0.

“This is a great win for us. Our guys have been working hard all week and it showed tonight. Now it's time to prepare ourselves for RMAC play as we kick-off our conference season with last year's champ (Colorado School of Mines). Right now we are going to enjoy this one, but tomorrow it's all business. I'd like to thank the entire community of Las Vegas for coming out tonight and showing their support. It was awesome,” commented NMHU Head Coach Eric Young following his Cowboys 60-14 win over OPSU.


Offensively, the Cowboys finished with 563 total yards on the night. The Cowboys would rush for 309 yards and pass for 254 for the game. The Cowboys 309 yards on the ground would be their second 300+ yard rushing performance of the season. James Finklea would lead the Cowboys in rushing on the night with 82 yards on the ground. Eric Pesante and Harold Mobley would round out the top three rushers for the game. Pesante would finish with 69 yards and one score, while Mobley would rumble for 66 yards and one score as he ran over countless OPSU defenders on his way to pay dirt. Emmanuel Lewis would finish the night 11 of 19 for 198 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions. Keondric Reynolds would lead all receivers for the night with 113 yards on seven receptions and one touchdown.

Defensively, the Cowboys would cause havoc for the OPSU offense. The Cowboys defense would hold the Aggies to 316 total yards for the night. The Aggies would rush for 181 yards and pass for 135 on the night. Jordan Campbell would lead the Cowboys for the night with nine tackles, three tackles for loss and one quarterback hurry. Devin Howard and Virdell Larkins would round out the top performers for the Cowboys. Howard would finish with seven tackles and two and a half tackles for loss. Larkins would follow suit with seven tackles of his own and one tackle for loss. The Cowboys defense finished the night with a huge four interceptions. Cordell Nugent would snatch an OPSU pass out of the air and tack on a 15 yard return. Tony Udley would have the longest return of the season thus far for the Cowboys with a 98 yard return for a touchdown on his one interception of the day. Abdul Kanneh would be the interception leader of the day as he grabbed two OPSU passes and returned them for a combined 63 yards on the night. Kanneh would also show his jets as a return man for the Cowboys with a 97 yard touchdown return 
of an OPSU kick-off.
