The Pokes finished the 2012 season with an 8-3 record which was good enough for a third place finish in the final RMAC standings. NMHU's three losses came at the hands of DI opponent Southern Utah University (45-23), #20 Chadron State College (36-33) and #1 CSU-Pueblo (31-17). The Pokes 8-3 mark is the best NMHU record since the 1998 season when the Cowboys posted an 8-3 record under then Head Coach, Carl Ferrill.

Senior Linebacker, Jordan Campbell, a native to Corona, Calif. was named the RMAC Preseason Defensive Player of the Year and finished his senior campaign with a team leading 104 tackles, 23 tackles for a loss of 127 yards, 12 sacks for a loss of 77 yards, three pass break-ups, eight quarterback hurries, one fumble recovery and three forced fumbles. Campbell set the RMAC Record for Tackles for a Loss with 28.5 in the 2011 season; he then tied the RMAC Record for Second Most Tackles for a Loss with six in the game against Western New Mexico University.  Campbell finished the 2011 season with an RMAC leading 110 total tackles.  Campbell also took over the punting duties for the Cowboys over the 2011 season and tied the RMAC record for longest punt with a booming 89 yarder in the Cowboys' season finale against Fort Lewis College.

Senior offensive lineman, Chris Awambu, is a native of Hayward, Calif.
