The NMHU Cowboys dropped the Mustangs of the University of the Southwest 14-1 on 2/17 in Hobbs, N.M. The Cowboys would string together 11 runs in the first three innings en route to their 14-1 victory. With the win, the Pokes are now 3-0 on the season.
Chris Prokupek (1-0) got the win for the Cowboys on the mound against USW. Prokupek allowed one run on four hits while striking out six USW batters in five innings pitched.
Gavin Hite would then come in for Prokupek and continue the Cowboys dominance from the mound by hold the Mustangs hitless for one inning while striking out two batters.
Nicasio Gonzalez finished off the game for the Pokes on the mound allowing no hits while striking out one Mustang batter in one inning pitched.
Leading the way for the Cowboys form the batter's box was
Robbie Ingram. Ingram finished the game 2-3 with three runs scored, four RBI's, one triple and one homerun.
Clay Mohr bounced back from a rough opening weekend as he finished the day 2-4 with three runs scored, one RBI and one triple.
AJ Alexander rounds out the top the Cowboy performers finishing the game 2-4 for the day with two runs scored.
The Cowboys will continue their play in Hobbs, N.M. on 2/18 taking on USW and the Greyhounds of Eastern New Mexico University for a two game swing in day two of the USW Tournament.
