Greyhounds Run Past Cowboys 6-3

The NMHU Cowboys fell to in-state rival the Greyhounds of Eastern New Mexico University 6-3 on 3/13 in Portales, N.M. The Cowboys jumped out to an early lead after scoring two runs in the second inning to take the 2-0 lead over ENMU. The Greyhounds evened it up at 2-2 scoring two runs in the fourth inning. In the fifth inning the Pokes scored one run off a Robbie Ingram single to left field scoring Eric Maupin. That would be the last run scored for the Cowboys as the Greyhounds rallied to score one run in the seventh inning and three runs in the eighth inning to go ahead 6-3 for their ninth win of the season. With the loss, the Cowboys are now 13-3 on the season. The Pokes will get back to RMAC play on 3/16 as they host the Cougars of Colorado Christian University for their 2012 home opener.

David Saiz got the start on the mound for the Cowboys. Saiz held the Greyhounds to just two runs on seven hits while striking out three ENMU batters in four and one-third innings pitched. Matt Gualco (0-1) came in for relief of Saiz and allowed three runs (two earned) on two hits while striking out one batter in three innings pitched. Oscar Almeida finished off the game for the Cowboys allowing one run on two hits in two-thirds of an inning pitched.

Offensive leaders for the Pokes include: Robbie Ingram, Josh McMahon and Jarod Jamerson. Ingram finished the day 1-2 with one run scored and one RBI. McMahon finished 2-3 for the game and Jamerson rounds out the top three going 2-5 with one RBI.

The Cowboys will be in action again on 3/16 as they host the Cougars of Colorado Christian University in their 2012 home opener in Las Vegas, N.M. First pitch is scheduled for 12:00 p.m.
