The NMHU Cowboys (29-12, 22-10 RMAC) split their four game series after falling to Regis University (21-20, 16-16 RMAC) 11-4 on Sunday 4/22.
Chris Prokupek (4-5) was credited with the loss after throwing five complete and striking out three in the 25 batters he faced.
The first four innings ended in a tie at one apiece but five Rangers crossed the plate in the fifth inning. Regis tacked on another two in the sixth off of three hits. Two innings later, they scored another three to finish their scoring for the game.
Highlands' bats started to work in the seventh, but the two runs they scored were not enough. Both
Erik Scott and
Matt Gualco hit 2-for-4 on the day including three combined runs batted in.
Nicasio Gonzales fanned three in his two innings and faced 12. All three pitchers combined for eight strikeouts and three walks.
“Our pitching was not high caliber today. We definitely need to work harder on Monday to prepare for Kearney next weekend,” said Head Coach
Steve Jones. “Tomorrow is a new day to get on the field and fine tune our defense.”
