Despite 40 mph gusts and not so favorable conditions, the NMHU Cowboys shut down the Mavericks of Colorado Mesa University 2-0 on 5/17 in Mankato, Minn. to advance in NCAA Central Baseball Regional play. NMHU rode the arm of Cowboy hurler,
Jason Sirak, to their opening round win over CMU. Sirak pitched a complete game shut-out against the Mavericks to keep the Cowboys in the winner's bracket. Sirak is 2-0 against the Mavericks in his last two appearances on the mound. With the win, the Cowboys advance to second round play and will take on the winner of the Winona State / St. Cloud State game at 7:00 p.m. on 5/18. “Jason (Sirak) had an outstanding outing on a great day to pitch. We made the plays we needed to make to get us out of some tough situations and had some timely hits today against a very good Colorado Mesa team. It's nice to get win number 40 in regional play,” said NMHU Head Coach
Steve Jones following his Cowboys 2-0 win over CMU.
