Box Score The NMHU Cowgirl Soccer team lost a thrilling double-overtime game to the Rambelles of Angelo State University, on 9/1, by the final score of 2-1. Despite taking the initial lead in the first half, the Rambelles were able to tie the game up in the second half and send the game into overtime. Neither team was able to score in the first overtime period, but Angelo State captured the win with a goal in the second overtime period. The Cowgirls took the lead in the first half with a 15th minute goal by
Kelsie Roberts. Cowgirl defender
Molly Enenbach played the ball forward to Roberts, who broke free and buried the ball in the back of the net to give the Cowgirls the 1-0 lead. The Cowgirls took their lead into halftime.
The Cowgirls maintained their one goal lead until the 76th minute when Angelo State tied the game up at one apiece. Rambelles' midfielder Lauren Carnes created the goal with her assist to striker Lauren Bateman. Bateman took the pass and flicked the ball into the net to even the game up at 1-1.
The score was still tied up at one apiece when regulation time expired so the game went into overtime. Neither team was able to score in the first overtime so a second overtime period was needed.
The Rambelles were finally able to secure the victory in the 102nd minute of the second overtime. It was Angelo State's midfielder Lauren Carnes who created the winning goal. Carnes played a cross into the box and ASU striker Sierra Anderson put the ball into the back of the net.
Although the Cowgirls scored the first goal of the game, Angelo State was the more dangerous team on the attack. The Rambelles outshot the Cowgirls 18-3 and were awarded six corner kicks to the Cowgirls one corner. Cowgirl keeper
Kayla Clarke did a respectable job in goal making eight saves on the 10 shots on target by ASU.
The game was a physical contest that saw the Cowgirls commit 20 fouls to Angelo State's 10 fouls. The Cowgirls also received three yellow cards in the match, while the Rambelles drew one yellow card.
The Cowgirls will be in action again on Monday, 9/3, as they travel to Odessa, Texas to face the Falcons of the University of Texas – Permian Basin. The Falcons, of the Heartland Conference, are 0-1 on the season after dropping their first game 1-0 to Angelo State University.
