#2 Jordan Falcon
Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Las Vegas, N.M. – The NMHU Cowboy Baseball team earned a split in their double header against the Metropolitan State University of Denver Roadrunners, on Mar. 16.  The Cowboys fell to the Roadrunners' offense in game one by the final score of 11-7.  In game two, the Cowboys got out to an early lead and then relied on closer Oscar Almeida to finish off the 6-5 victory.  The Cowboys, led by Head Coach Steve Jones, improve to 9-2 in the RMAC and 13-7 in overall play.

MSUD 11 – NMHU 7
The Cowboys jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning.  They held that lead until the Roadrunner bats got hot in the third and fourth innings.  MSUD picked up six runs in the third and the fourth and took a 6-2 lead after four innings.

The Roadrunners put up another run in the top of the fifth, but the Cowboys would pick up three runs of their own in the bottom of the fifth, cutting the MSUD lead down to just two runs.

The Roadrunners' offense caught fire again in the top of the sixth inning.  They started off with a two-run home run and added two more runs in the inning to increase their lead to 11-5.

The Cowboys were able to pick up two more runs in the bottom of the sixth, making the score 11-7 in favor of MSUD, but they were unable to generate any more offense in the game.

When the final out was recorded in the bottom of the seventh inning, the Roadrunners had taken their second straight victory at Brandt Field by the final score of 11-7.

Braulio Hernandez (1-2) was the losing pitcher against the Roadrunners.  He threw four and two-thirds innings from the mound and struck out one batter.  Hernandez allowed seven runs on 11 hits but only five of the runs were earned.

Jordan Chavez and Jordan Goliat were the offensive leaders for the Cowboys in game one.

Chavez led off for the Cowboys and generated a triple in his first at bat, scoring the Cowboys' first run of the game.

Goliat entered the game in the fifth inning and was 2-2 at the plate, with two runs scored.

NMHU 6 – MSUD 5
The Cowboys started game two of the double header with runs in the first inning once again.  Kyle Davis had two RBIs and Jordan Chavez added another RBI, giving the Cowboys a 3-0 lead from the get go.

The Cowboys would add another run in both the second and third innings, increasing their lead to 5-0 after three innings played.

MSUD was able to generate one run in the top of the fourth inning but the Cowboys held on to their five run advantage (6-1) when Jordan Falcon crossed home plate in the bottom of the fourth inning.  MSUD's catcher tried to pick Falcon off on third base but his throw went wild and Falcon jogged home.

The Roadrunners were not willing to quit without a fight and they put up three runs in the top of the sixth inning.  The Cowboys tried to add some insurance runs to the scoreboard in the bottom of the sixth.

They had the bases loaded with two outs when a passed ball at home plate saw Jordan Goliat make an attempt to score from third base.  Goliat sped towards home but the Roadrunners' catcher made a heads up play, grabbing the ball to his left and catching Goliat with a diving tag at the plate.

Cowboy closer Oscar Almeida took the mound in the top of the seventh, looking to finish the victory for the Pokes.  Almeida got into a little trouble in the inning, allowing another Roadrunner run to cross the plate.  Almeida battled the MSUD offense and the situation was set for an exciting finish, with two outs and the bases loaded.

Almeida settled in and struck out the last MSUD batter on three straight pitches, earning his fifth save of the season.   The Cowboys won game two 6-5, earning a split on the day's double header action.

Ray Torres (1-1) earned his first win of the season, five and two-thirds innings pitched from the mound.  Torres allowed four runs on nine hits and struck out five batters.

Davis was also 2-3 at the plate, with two RBIs and one run scored.
