Box Score Grand Junction, Colo. – The no. 17 Colorado Mesa University Mavericks completed the four-game series sweep of the NMHU Cowboys, with a 4-3 victory on Mar. 24. The loss gives the Cowboys a 10-6 record in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference and 14-12 in overall play. The Cowboys, led by Head Coach
Steve Jones, remain the RMAC Plains Division leader but fall to second place overall in the conference behind Mountain Division leading Colorado Mesa University.
CMU 4 – NMHU3
Despite starting the game with three hits in the top of the first inning, the Cowboys were unable to score any runs. The Mavericks took advantage in the bottom of the first with three runs on four hits, including a two-run home run, and CMU took a 3-0 lead early on.
CMU's pitching staff continued to have the answer for the Cowboys' offensive attack and the Pokes didn't score their first run until the fourth inning.
Tyler Hayes hit an RBI double that brought
Thomas Lyons around to score (3-1).
The Mavericks picked up another run in the bottom of the fifth inning on an errant throw by the Cowboys' catcher. The Mavericks' Nate Robertson successfully stole second base and Garrett Carpenter was able to score on the throw (4-1).
The Cowboys picked up another run in the top of the seventh inning.
Jordan Goliat brought
Scott Frazier home with an RBI double to right field, cutting the Maverick lead down, 4-2.
Tyler Hayes was able to score a third run for the Cowboys in the top of the ninth inning, but the Mavericks held on for the victory by the final score of 4-3.
Chris Prokupek (3-2) was credited with the loss for the Cowboys. He threw seven innings from the pitcher's mound for the Pokes, allowing four runs on nine hits and striking out six.

Matt Gualco,
Thomas Lyons, and
Tyler Hayes all recording extra base hits against the Mavericks.

Jordan Goliat ended up 1-4 with an RBI.

The Cowboys will return home next Thursday, Mar. 28, for game one of their four-game conference series against the Orediggers of the Colorado School of Mines. The Orediggers are currently in third place in the RMAC Mountain Division with a 4-8 conference record and 7-13 in overall play. The games are set to begin at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, in consideration of the Easter Sunday (Mar. 31). The teams are scheduled to play a double-header on Friday (Mar. 29, 12:00 p.m.) and finish with game four on Saturday (Mar. 30, 12:00 p.m.).
