Box Score Las Vegas, N.M. – The NMHU Cowboys won the first game of their four-game conference home series against the Colorado State University of Pueblo Thunderwolves by the final score of 5-1. Cowboy starter
Oscar Almeida worked a one-hitter into the fifth inning and had enough run support from his teammates to pick up the victory against their RMAC Plains Division rivals. The Cowboys, led by Head Coach
Steve Jones, improve their record to 21-12 in the RMAC and 25-18 in overall play.

The Cowboys picked up their first run in the bottom of the first inning.
Jarred Middleton hit an RBI double to the outfield, allowing
Jordan Goliat to cross home plate.
The Pokes struck again in the bottom half of the second inning.
Jordan Goliat scored another run for the Cowboys when
Cory Falvey hit a single up the middle of the infield. After two innings of play the Cowboys were in the lead 2-0.
In the bottom of the fourth inning, the Cowboys scored two runs to extend their lead 4-0.
Jordan Goliat drove
Scott Frazier home with his triple to right center field for the first run of the inning. Then it was Goliat's awareness on the base path that led to the Cowboys' next run. A pitch got away from the CSU-Pueblo catcher and rolled to the backstop. Goliat took off from third base and beat the throw at the plate.
The Cowboys scored again in the bottom of the sixth inning. Once more it was
Jordan Goliat with the offensive fire power. With
Justin Rodriguez on second base, Goliat hit an RBI double to right-center field. Rodriguez crossed home plate, extending the Cowboys' lead 5-0.
The Thunderwolves picked up their only run of the game in the top of the seventh inning when Dominick Bregar hit a solo home run to left-center field. The homer put the Thunderwolves on the scoreboard, but the Pokes still held a 5-1 lead.
Neither team would score again. It was the Cowboys who would come away with the 5-1 win in game one of the series against CSU-Pueblo.
Oscar Almeida (6-1) was lights out once again for the Cowboys from the pitcher's mound. He threw a complete nine innings for the Pokes, allowing one run on five hits. Almeida dominated the Thunderwolves' offense, striking out 11 batters in the game. He has made an amazing transition as a starting pitcher, more often than not going the distance and picking up big wins for the Pokes.
Jordan Goliat was the offensive powerhouse for the Cowboys in game one.
Goliat was 4-5 at the plate, with three runs scored, two RBIs, one double, and a triple.
