Box Score LAS VEGAS, N.M.- The Cowgirls dropped another match as their record falls to 5-12 overall, 1-7 RMAC. Since their first conference win, the girls have struggled to get a w in the win column. On Friday night, the Cowgirls started great by winning the first set but could not keep it going as they lost in four sets to the Skyhawks (25-23, 23-25, 18-25, 21-25).
In the first set, the girls came out competing and the set would have a close ending. It would be the girls' most efficient set as they only had five attacking errors. The Skyhawks would fight and have a run to bring them in striking distance but the Cowgirls would pull away and win the first set 25-23.
The second set would be simular to the first set except the Skyhawks have the lead late in the set. Using the 8 attacking errors that the Skyhawks had, the Cowgirls would comeback and be on the cusp of taking the lead, but it would not be enough as they fell 25-23.
Third and fourth set consisted of many errors for the Cowgirls as they had 9 attacking errors in each set.
The Skyhawks would have the same amount of kills as the Cowgirls in the third set (13 Kills) but the Skyhawks would take care of their opportunities and fly away with the set 25-18.
Errors in the fourth set were a big problem for the Cowgirls as their 18 kills would not be enough to take the win in the set. Sophomore
Kristin Woody came out in the beginning of the set and help the girls build a decent lead. Despite the beginning lead, the girls would struggle making big runs and the Skyhawks lack of errors in the final set would cause the Cowgirls to lose the set and match.
Tianna Matthews (10 kills and 4 service aces and 3 block assists), and
Katie Trammel (14 kills and 2 block assists), were major impact players for the Cowgirls Friday night.
The Cowgirls return to action at home on Saturday, Oct. 10 at 7 p.m. against Adams State. Live Stats and Video will be available.
