Baseball Prepares for Critical Home Series with Colorado Christian

LAS VEGAS, N.M. - The New Mexico Highlands baseball team (13-17, 7-13 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference) will play an important series against Colorado Christian (12-22, 5-19 RMAC) in the race to make the RMAC Tournament in the the final inter-division game with the Mountain Division of the conference.


Schedule This Weekend

Friday (April 10) will be a nine-inning game at the regularly-schedule time of 3 p.m. while Sunday (April 12) nine-inning game will be at noon. However, the two seven-inning double header on Saturday (April 11) begin at 1 p.m. 


Media This Weekend

Due to both softball and baseball being at Highlands this weekend, just the Friday baseball game will be on America One (here) for $8. However, every game in two weeks will be on America One against nationally-ranked CSU-Pueblo. Every game against the Cougars can be followed on live stats by clicking here.



Looking Forward to the Weekends

Fifth-year senior Matthew Chavez continues to lead the Cowboys with a .370 batting average and 12 doubles. Senior Joe Cervantes leads the team with six home runs. All three starters have a 6.00+ ERA, led by redshirt freshman Curtis Hynes3-2 record and 6.29 ERA. Senior Morgan McCasland, who sees most of the time behind the plate, has also appeared on the mound three times and is 1-0 with two saves.

While Colorado Christian is 5-19 in conference play, the Cougars have played their opponents very tough in conference play. 11-of-19 losses by Colorado Christian in conference play has been by three runs or loss. Dustin Conley leads the team with a .349 average and 44 hits. However, Conley has hit into a third of the team's ground ball double plays (5-of-15). The Cougars do not have much power, but Taylor Dudley has hit one third (5-of-15) of the team's home runs. Garrett Henrichsen has a 3-0 ERA.

Austin Atkerson leads the team with a 4.97 ERA, but only holds a 1-4 record. 


Next Up

New Mexico Highlands will return to intra-division games with an important series at Adams State next weekend (April 17-19). The two teams will play at 3 p.m. Friday, Saturday's double header begins at noon while Sunday's single game begins at noon.
