Cowboys Baseball Falls Against Lubbock Christian

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 LUBBOCK, Texas- The Cowboys and Chaps did just as the late Ernie Banks said "lets play two". The Cowboys would not be on the lucky side of the ball as they dropped both games by scores of 10-1 and 8-6.
 
Game 1
 
The Chaps wasted no time as the Cowboy went 1-2-3 in the top of the first. The Chaps would be lead by Stewart who hit a lead off double. After a Urquizo walk, McFall would single to right field to load the bases. Johnson saw four balls go by to walk a run in. Urquizo and McFall were driven in by Reyes who singled though the right side. Two batters later Rousseau grounded into a double play that allowed Johnson to score from third to give the Chaps the 4-0 lead with two outs. Wilhelm hit a ball that had eyes and singled to center and moved Reyes across the plate. The Cowboys would then bring in Gutierrez to pitch to stop the bleeding. Unfortunately, three batters later Urquizo singled past the Cowboys third baseman to score Wilhelm. McFall followed up with a single through the right side to score Stewart and Baustamante to give the Chaps the 8-0 lead after the first.
 
  The Chaps would strike again in the bottom of the fifth. Rix singled to centerfield to start the inning off. Wilhelm would follow a fly out with a double down he leftfield line to put two runners in scoring position. Bustamante sent a fly ball to right field where the Cowboys would get the second out, but Rix would tag on the play to make it a 9-0 game. A double up the middle by Stewart gave the Chaps a 10-0 lead after five.
 
The Cowboys would attempt to come back in the top of the seventh. McCarty would reach on a fielding error by the third baseman and advanced to second. Drury would also reach base on a fielding error by the Chaps third baseman that scored McCarty from second. The Chaps would get the next two batters out to end the game at 10-1.
 
Game 2
 
For the first time in the series the Cowboys would strike first. Easton Garcia doubled between the third baseman and the shortstop. Blackwell hit a sharp ball to the second baseman that allowed Garcia to move over to third. A deep fly ball to center from McCarty allowed Garcia to tag and score.
 
The Chaps wouldn't let the Cowboys keep the led for long. After back-to-back singles the Chaps would have runners on the corners. The runner at first stole second to give the Chaps two runners in scoring possession. Arzaga grounded out to the Cowboys first baseman that pushed Stewart across the plate to tie the game at the end of one.
 
The Cowboys had a taste of the lead and they wanted to get it back. Drury lead the Cowboys off on a hit by pitch. Silva doubled down the left field line and Drury went to third. Chaporal then grounded out to the second baseman and score Drury. Medina would get his first RBI of the season on a sacrifice fly to the centerfielder that scored Silva to give the Cowboys the 3-1 lead.
 
In the fifth the Cowboys would strike again. Medina led the Cowboys with a single. Cilladi hit a sharp ball to the third baseman who had trouble coming up with the ball. Garcia would play some small ball and move Medina to third and Cilladi to second. A single to left by Blackwell score Medina from third. After 4.5 the Cowboys lead the Chaps 4-1.
 
The Chaps would answer back right away in the bottom half of the inning. With a runner at third Bustamante singled past the third baseman to score a run. Bustamante would steal second before score on a single to center field by Stewart. Urquizo singled to third base and a throwing error by the Cowboy's third baseman allowed him to move to second and Stewart to third. McFall would then hit a double to centerfield that would score two and give the Chaps their first lead of the game 5-4.
 
The Chaps would cross two men across the plate in the bottom on the sixth, on a double to left center by Wihelm.
 
With the Cowboys down to their last six outs the Cowboys needed to make a push to get the lead back. With runners on the corners Gonzalez made solid contact but the right fielder was there to make that catch and Blackwell tagged from third. Another sacrifice fly would allow McCarty to score from third.
 
The Chaps would answer with another run in the bottom of the eighth to give them the 8-6 lead. The Cowboys would get a hit in the top of the ninth but were not able to put any runners across the plate.
 
The Cowboys will return to action next weekend in Canyon, Texas for a four game series against West Texas A&M. The two teams will play on Friday at 5 p.m., Saturday at 3 and 5:30, and Sunday at noon. All times are listed as MST.
