Baseball Drops Series Finale At West Texas A&M

Box Score CANYON, Texas- The Cowboys and the Buffs finished their 2016 series on Sunday afternoon at West Texas A&M. The Cowboys fell by a score of 4-2.
 
The Buffs, like they had all weekend, scored early in the game. In the bottom of the first Cole singled up the middle with one out. Chapman hit a solid shot to right center to score Cole from first. Loya lead off the bottom of the second. Fuller then moved him over to third on a bunt. The Buffs' Shiflett laid down a bunt to the first baseman and squeezed Loya home to give them the 2-0 lead.
 
In the bottom of the fourth a single by Baiada scored Fuller from third, who lead off the inning with a double, to put the Buffs up 3-0.
 
It was in the top of the fifth the Cowboys found their way onto the board. Lamont lead the Cowboys off with a single to right field. A single by Cpaoral moved Lamont to second and brought McCarty to the box. He would knock a shot to left center. Lamont scored from second easily while Caporal got on his horse and crossed the plate to make it 3-2.
 
West Texas A&M would add an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth on a single to left field with a fielding error by the Cowboy's left fielder. In the top of the ninth the Cowboys would try to make a push. With one out Blackwell singled to the shortstop. Alvaro Gonzalez would reach on a fielder's choice. With two outs Lamont would strike out to end the game and the Cowboys would fall to the Buffs by a score of 4-2.
 
The Cowboys will travel to UT-Permian Basin next weekend to take on the Falcons in a three game series. They will play two on Friday, at 11 a.m. and 1:30 p.m., and one on Saturday at 11 a.m.
