Baseball Wins First Series Of The Season

Box Score CANYON, Texas- Straight out of an extra inning win last night, the Cowboys came out hot against the Falcons in the rubber game of the series. Extra innings would be needed but the Cowboys took the final game of the series by a score of 7-4 in 11 innings.

The Cowboys wanted to make sure theyput some pressure on the Falcons from the start. Easton Garcia led the Cowboys off with a hit by pitch. On the fourth pitch Brad Blackwell saw he pulled it to left field. Garcia was aggressive and slid in to beat the throw at third while Blackwell advanced to second. Jeremy McCarty grounded to the shortstop who decided to go to first and allow Garcia to score. After just half an inning the Cowboys led 1-0.
Their bats stayed alive in the top of the second. After a Cowboy pop out Silva doubled to left on the first pitch he saw. Brian Chaparro followed with a single to right that allowed Silva to move to third. Emilio Medina pulled through with a single through the left side to drive in Silva. After one and half innings the Cowboys led 3-1.

UTPB would string some hits together in the bottom of the fourth. With one out Miller singled to left. After a hit batter the Falcons had runners on first and second. Van Vranken doubled to left field to push Miller across the dish.
The Cowboys would answer back in the top of the fifth. Garcia would once again lead off the Cowboys by getting on base. He then advanced to second on a wild pitch then was aggressive on the path and stole third. McCarty would hit a ball that had eyes up the middle on the sixth pitch of the at bat. The Cowboys led 4-1 after the top of the fifth.

In the bottom of the sixth the Falcons rallied to even up the game. Three of the first four batters singled to give them a pond full of ducks. Houihan had a good eye and saw four balls go by and forced Iturralde in to make it a 4-2 game. Van Vranken scored on a fielder's choice and made it a one run game. Fernandez, who singled earlier in the inning, was standing on third when the Cowboys threw a wild pitch and Fernandez took the opportunity to tie the game.

The fans saw an inning of free baseball before either team put a crooked number on the board. Medina led the Cowboys in the top of 11th by getting hit by a pitch. Coach Hunt brought in Cody Castro to pinch run for the catcher. Joseph Cilladi used his bunting skills to lay down a great one right in front of the plate to move Castro over. The Falcon's pitcher lost grip of a pitch and hit Garcia for the second time of the day. With based loaded and McCarty in the box, McCarty would come through with solid connection that the first baseman was not able to handle. Castro scored to give the Cowboys the one run lead. Gonzalez hit a towering fly ball to left that was caught, but Garcia left the base after the catch and scored easily. Caporal added a second insurance run for the Cowboys on a single to left. With just three outs left the Falcons needed three runs to keep the game going but Alex Gutierrez would shut the Falcons down in order to end the game.

The Cowboys will open RMAC play next week on the road at Adams St. The first game of the series will be on Friday at 3 p.m. Live stats will be available.
