Baseball Avoids The Sweep With The 15-12 Win

Box Score LAS VEGAS, N.M.- The Cowboys looked to avoid the sweep by the Fort Hays St. Tigers. The Cowboys would avoid the sweep in the dramatic15-12 win.
 
The Tigers' Redington would start the game off with a walk after seven pitches by Gutierrez. Cherryholmes would then double down the left field line that would score Redington from first. Unrein would continue his hot weekend with a single to left which would give the Tigers runners on the corners. A wild pitch would put the runners on second and third when Ross would single up the middle to score two. After just half an inning the Cowboys trailed 3-0.
 
The Cowboys took no time to answer as Easton Garcia drove the pitch to right field and make his way to third. Garcia would score on a wild pitch to make it a 3-1 game. McCarty would have a nine pitch at bat before he would end up on first with a walk. After a fly out by Alvaro Gonzalez, Dalton Drury would single through the left side to move McCarty to third. He would then come into score and Drury would advance on a passed ball. Drury would advance to third on another passed ball by the Tiger's catcher. Lamont would ground to the shortstop but a wild throw would allow Drury to tie the game at 3-3.
 
With Caporal at first in the top of the second Garcia would hit into a fielder's choice that would move Caporal to second. Silva would then single to right field to give the Cowboys runners on the corners. McCarty would groundout to the shortstop but Garcia would score from third to make it a 4-3 Cowboy lead.
 
The Tiger's weren't down for long as after the Cowboys turned a double play, Ross would hit a solo homer over the 390 sign in left field. That's where the Cowboys and Tigers would be after two and a half, 4-4.
 
In the top of the fifth Unrein would start the inning off with a single to center. He would take a good lead, jump, and would steal second base.  Ross would then single up the middle that score Unrein from second. Ross would then be caught stealing for the the first out of the out of the inning. The Cowboys would then get the next two Tigers to end the inning.
 
The Cowboys would answer in the bottom half of the fifth. Chaparro would start the Cowboys off with a five pitch walk. The Tigers would make a pitching change. Chaparro would advance to second on a balk by the new pitcher Boyer. Lamont would  walk on four straight pitches. Caporal would then single in the 3-4 hole which scored Chaparro. Garcia would then fly out to the left fielder and Lamont would tag from third to give the Cowboys the 6-5 lead at the end of five.
 
With one out in the top of the seventh Unrein would once again find himself on base after a single to the off the Cowboy pitcher. He would then advance to second on a high wild pitch from Trujillo. Ross would then single through the left side and score Unrein. Shannon Hunt would go to the bullpen and bring in Nelson. Weiss would double pass the diving Gonzalez and score Ross. At the Take Me Out to the Ballgame break the Tigers led by a score of 7-6.

Lamont would be hit by a pitch to give the Cowboys a runner on first in the bottom of the eighth. Sielinski would then see four balls go by for a walk. Caporal would double to right field to score Lamont and move Sielinski over to third.  After a pitching change Garcia would line out to the second baseman who would try to double off Sielinski at third but threw the ball past the third baseman. Sielinski got up and headed home and beat the throw to the plate where the ball would bounce off the catcher. Caporal advanced to third on the throw to the plate and continued home when he saw that no Tiger had the ball and scored to make it a 9-7 game. Blackwell would come in to pinch hit and would send one deep over the right center fence to give the Cowboys the 10-7 lead.
 
After a 1-2-3 inning for the Tigers, the Cowboys would look to add some more insurance runs against the powerful Tiger offense. After two walks Chaparro would bun the runners over to second and third. Lamont would single to right field to score Gonzales and move Drury to third. Lamont would then take second on a steal. Caporal pulled a single under the third baseman's glove that scored Lamont and Drury. Garcia would then single up the middle to score Caporal and Sielinski to make it a 15-7 Cowboy lead going into the top of the ninth.
 
The Tigers' Unrein would ground out to Hynes for the first out. Ross would be hit by a pitch. King would then single pass the third baseman to move Ross to second. Weiss would step in the box and double down the left field line that allowed Ross to score and make it a 15-8 game. Seadbrook would single up the middle to score King. Mapes would then pinch hit and would send one deep over the fence to score three to make it a 15-12 game with just one out in the half inning. Hammake would pop up to Garcia for the second out. Redington would come up to the plate and after battling with Hynes he would take a shot to left center for a stand up double. Dylan Norris then came into pitch for the Cowboys as Cherryholmes stepped up to the plate. Cherryholmes would then single to right to extend the game. Unrein would step up to the plate. Unrein had been having a great weekend for the Tigers. With the count of 3-2 he would pop a shot up in right field foul territory and McCarty would end the game on the driving catch.
 
The Cowboys avoid the sweep and will return to action next weekend at Lubbock Christian.
