Medina's Walk-off Hands Pueblo First RMAC Loss

Box Score LAS VEGAS, N.M.-  The Cowboys opened the 2016 RMAC home season with a thriller. The Cowboys would take an early lead but needed some late inning heroics to life them past the undefeated (4-0) Thunderwolves of Colorado State Pueblo.

In the bottom of the first the Cowboys scored four runs. With runners on first and third Jeremy McCarty ripped a knocked a stand-up triple to score both Garcia and Blackwell. Alvaro Gonzalez doubled to left field and pushed McCarty across. Gonzalez score on a ground out to the first baseman. After just one inning the Cowboys had four runs on four hits.

The Thunderwolves were 4-0 in RMAC play for a reason. Their bats came alive in the top of the second as Cebilski hit a two-run dinger over the left field wall. After a Thunderwolves fly out Godman took one deep just right of the tall fence in center to cut the Cowboys lead down to just one, 4-3.

Headed into the top of ninth the Cowboys were up 6-4 when Anthony Badalucco came into the game for the save attempt. Unfortunately for the Cowboys, the Thunderwolves' bat strung some hits together. Griffin was on first when a skew throw from Badalucco to first on a pick off went into the Thunrderwolves' bullpen and Willman stopped at third.  Menocal singled to third to score Willman from third and make it a 6-5 game. After a pitching change Snyder singled up the middle to tie the game with Menocal scoring.

Emilio Medina of the Cowboys must have had something important going on tonight as with the first pitch he saw in the top of the ninth he crushed over the left field wall for a walk-off homerun! The Cowboys handed the Thunderwolves their first conference loss of the season with the 7-6 win.

"It great that Coach Hunt has been giving me these opportunities. I've been working hard it's awesome that he gives me the chance to showcase my talent on the field." Medina said when asked about his outstanding play over the past four games. "I've been seeing the ball well and it's just practice. Marshall and Hunt have done a great job working with me to see the ball like I am. It was great. "

"Joel has pitched his butt off for us this season. We are going to strike out a lot of people, we are going to incorporate a lot of people in our defense. Joel the kid can't buy himself a win but he pitches like he should be 4-0." Hunt comment about Joel Lamont. When talking about Medina he said "You know Medina is starting to hit and it's kind of a flip of a coin between Michael Sielinski. Certain guys like throwing to Medina but this was the first time Joel had thrown to Medina in a game this season and I wanted to see if it would mix things up a little bit. Medina is just hitting the ball right now."

The two teams will play a double header tomorrow starting at noon and the second game roughly at 2 p.m. Live stats and video will be provided.
