Timely Hitting Lifts Regis Over Cowboys

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 LAS VEGAS, N.M.- Your Cowboys and the Rangers of Regis squared off to finish their first series of the season in a doubleheader this afternoon.

Game 1
The Cowboys dropped the first game by a final score of 7-1.

Regis came out swinging their bats in the top of the first after the Cowboys hit the first two batters. Those runners moved to second and third on a passed ball. Overboe flied out to center and the ball was deep enough to get Newell home from third. Rochon didn't want to be shown up by Overboe as he singled to center to score LaComb.

The Cowboys answered the Ranger's two runs with a run of their own in the bottom half of the first inning. With one out Joseph Cilladi doubled to center. Jeremy McCarty moved Cilladi over to third on a ground out to short. Alvaro Gonzalez singled to center to score Cilladi and cut the Ranger's lead in half, 2-1 after just one inning of play.

In the third the Rangers scored two three runs on three hits to grow their lead and make it a 5-1 game. They also added two more insurance runs in the top of the ninth to give up the final score of 7-1.

Game 2
The Cowboys didn't want to have to try and battle back again in the last game of the series as they scored first in the bottom of the first but the Regis bats kept on hitting.

In the bottom of the first with one out Cilladi singled to shortstop to give the Cowboys the first hit of the game. After a Gonzalez fly out, McCarty singled to left and moved Cilladi to second. Jesus Caporal doubled down the left field line to plate two and give himself two more RBIs.

Regis tied the game in the top of the third on a single by LaComb and a double by Overboe.

Gonzalez has been swinging a hot bat the past couple of weekend and he continued this weekend as he launched a homer to left center, his second homerun of the weekend, to give the Cowboys the 3-2 lead after three innings.

It always seemed that as soon as the Cowboys score a run the Rangers answered and it wouldn't be any different this time. The Rangers' Navarro went deep to right to once again tie the game at 3-3. They added two more runs in the top of the fifth. After five the Rangers lead 5-3.

The bats for Regis continued to hit as they added a run in the top of the sixth and three into the top of the seventh. The Cowboys were down to their last three outs with a score of 9-3. Medina lead the Cowboys off with a double to the line in left. The Rangers gave up second and third to Medina to get Frankie Silva out at first. Brian Chaparro would then single to left and score Medina. Unfortunately, the Cowboys grounded into a 6-4-3 double play to end the game.

The Cowboys will be back in action next weekend at home against Colorado Mesa. The first game of the series is scheduled to start on Friday at 3 p.m. at Brandt Field.
