LAS VEGAS, N.M.- The Cowboys and #2 Mavericks of Colorado Mesa will face off in a four game series this weekend.
Just a Quick Reminder The New Mexico Highlands athletics department would like to remind fans and guests about a few things. First, please do not bring outside food and drink to the softball fields. There will be food and drinks available at the concession stand. Second, PETS WILL NOT BE ALLOWED IN THE GATES. Please leave your pets at home. Lastly, please park in the Wilson Complex as the gate by the field house will be locked for both car and foot traffic. Tickets are $5.
Scouting New Mexico Highlands The Cowboys are entering the weekend with a 5-20, 2-10 record. The Cowboys are coming off being swept by the Rangers of Regis.
Leading the Cowboys at the plate is junior
Emilio Medina with a .333 average in 15 games this season. Leading the team in RBIs this season is
Alvaro Gonzalez has 21 and also leads the team in homeruns with six.
The Cowboys are led by
Corey Nelson with two wins,
Alex Gutierrez, and
Dylan Norris both with one win apiece.
Dylan Norris also leads the team in ERA at 2.89 in nine appearances.
Scouting #2 Colorado Mesa The Mavericks come into the weekend with an impressive 21-4, 11-1 record this season, including three-of-four at #28 Cal Baptist, two-of-four from #13 Dixie St, and two wins over Division I Northern Colorado. The Mavericks have also won 13 of their last 14 games.
Leading the way at the plate for the Mavericks is Alex Fife. He has played in 20 of the 25 Maverick's games this season and is hitting .412 with 13 RBIs. Leading the team in RBIs is James Young III with 21 including six dingers.
On the mound the Mavericks as led by four different pitchers who have started at least three games. JR McDermott is 3-0 with a 0.74 ERA in five starts and one relief appearance. Tanner Herdt is also a name to look for on the hill. Herdt is 4-0 with a 1.57 ERA and had only walked five batters all season while striking out 36.
