Errors Hurt Cowboys On Day Two

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 LAS VEGAS, N.M.- The #2 Colorado Mesa Mavericks and Cowboys continued their RMAC series this weekend with doubleheader on Friday. The Mavericks would make a comeback in the top of the seventh in game one and would take game two on Cowboy errors.
 
Game 1
The Cowboys earned the lead in the bottom of the first but a late rally by the Mavericks gave the, the win 8-5.
 
The Mavericks sent five batters to plate in the first inning but Cody Lawson was able to escape with nothing hurt. The Cowboys sent one more batter to the plate but were able to score two runs. It started with a one out single by Joseph Cilladi. A single by Alvaro Gonzalez moved Cilladi to second. A Jeremy McCarty triple gave the Cowboys the 2-0 lead. Joel Lamont grounded out to second but McCarty crossed the plate to give the Cowboys the 3-0 lead after one inning.
 
The Cowboys added another run in the bottom of the second on a ground out by Easton Garcia and scored Brian Chaparro who led off the inning with a double.
 
The Mavericks pushed a run across in the top of the fourth on a Carr sacrifice fly. The Mavericks would do their damage in the top of the seventh inning. Cody Lawson stayed in the game to start the sixth innings but after a lead off walk by Borowski Coach Shannon Hunt pulled the starter. Another walk by Phil Trujillo to Fife allowed Ball to single up the middle gave him a RBI when Borowski to score. With runners on first and second the Mavericks used a double steal to put the tying run just 120 feet away. Chamberlin filed out to right but Fife tagged from third to cut the Cowboys lead down to just one, 4-3. The Mavericks tied the game on a single to left by Gonzalez where LaCrone came into score. After two more Mavericks runs to make it a 6-4 game and a runner on second McLeod hit a homerun to give the Mavericks the 8-4 lead.
 
The Cowboys scored one run in the bottom of the seventh on an error by the Maverick's shortstop. The final score of the first game was 8-5 in favor of the Mavericks.
 
 
Game 2
Errors in the second game would come back to hurt the Cowboys as the Mavericks took the second game 6-2.
 
In the top of the second and Sandoval at first LaCrone laid down a bunt but the Cowboy's pitcher fielded it cleanly but the throw was over the first baseman's head and Sandoval score from first and LaCrone advanced to third. Another throwing error in the top of the third allowed another Maverick run crossed the plate. Chamberlin followed that play up with a homerun to right and give them the 4-0 lead. They added two more in the fourth and gave them the 6-0 lead after just four innings.
 
In the bottom of the sixth Lamont was hit by the pitch to lead off the innings. Jesus Caporal walked and with two outs Michael Sielinski hit into a fielder choice where the Mavericks got Caporal out at second and Lamont advanced to third but a throwing error by the second baseman allowed him to score and make it a 6-1 game. The Cowboys added one more run in the bottom of the seventh on a Gonzalez ground out that scored Easton Garcia.
 
The Mavericks took the second game by a final score of 6-1.
 
The two teams will return to action tomorrow, Saturday afternoon, at noon to end the season series. Live stats and video will be available.
