Day 1 Sweep Of Cougars for Cowboys

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 LAS VEGAS, N.M.­- The Cowboys were looking to continue the their winning streak, three out of the last four, as they traveled up to Lakewood for some early baseball with the first game starting at 10 a.m.
 
Game 1
The Cowboys were able to take game one by a score of 5-3 thanks to timely hitting by Frankie Silva.
 
After both teams when 1-2-3 in the first the Cowboys were on the board in the second. With two outs Brad Blackwell started the rally with a single to the pitcher. After an Emilio Medina single Brian Chaparro singled up the middle and earned his 12th RBI of the season. Frankie Silvia continued his timely hitting with a two run double down the left field line to give the Cowboys the 3-0 lead. The Cowboys didn't stop there as Easton Garcia singled up the middle and Silvia came around to score.
 
The fourth inning was an exciting one. With Jesus Caporal on first Brian Chaparro singled up the middle but an error by the Cougar shortstop allowed Caporal to score and make it 5-0 after 3.5 innings. The Cougars' bats got hot and they decided to make it a game. After a lead-off double and then a single Gallegos tripled to left center to score two runs.  Two batters later Atkerson hit a grounder to Joseph Cilladi who conceded the run to get the out. After four innings the Cowboys lead 5-3.
 
Cody Lawson took the win as he took the win in 6.1 innings pitched with three earned runs, two walks, six strikeouts and 92 pitches.
 
Game 2
The Cowboys took the second game thanks too
 
The Cougars wasted no time looking for their first home win of the season in just their sixth game at their home field. They scored two runs in each of the first and second innings to lead 4-0.
 
In the third the Cowboys the Cowboys got back on the saddle and went to work. With the bases loaded Alvaro Gonzalez singled and added two RBIs to give him 33 for the season, which tied him for first place in conference this season. McCarty followed with a sacrifice fly to center to make a one run game and put him at 32 RBIs this season. With two outs Blackwell came through with a single to left that score Gonzalez and tied the game at four through two and a third.
 
The Cowboys added a run in the top of the fourth. Chaparro was at second and Garcia at first when Cilladi singled through the left side and Chaparro touched home plate to give the Cowboys the 5-4 lead. The Cougars wouldn't go quietly as they answered in the bottom of the fourth with a on a RBI single by Wiederhold to score Gallegos.
 
The Cowboys didn't let Cougars get to them as in the fifth they added another crooked number on the board. It started with a Chaparro sacrifice fly to center to score Caporal from third. Three batters later with the bases loaded Cilladi singled through the six hole to score Blackwell from third. Headed into the Cougars half of the fifth the Cowboys led 7-5.
 
The Cowboys finished off the day one doubleheader sweep of the Cougars by taking game two by a score of 7-5.
 
The two teams will attempt to play two games tomorrow but weather could play a factor. There is currently 100% chance of rain/snow with the possibility of 3-5 inches of precipitation. Stay tuned to the website and social media pages for any updates.
