Cowboys Sweep Thunderwolves On Saturday

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 PUEBLO, Colo.- Despite the rain and cold weather at Rawlings Field the Cowboys and Thunderwolves played two starting this afternoon.
 
Game 1
The first game took more than nine innings of play to decide the winner.
 
The Cowboys took advantage of a wild pitch and an error by the Thunderwolves to take the lead in the second inning. Frankie Silvia led things off with a walk. After a wild pitch he was standing up at second. An error by the shortstop allowed him to score from second on the Emilio Medina ball.
 
In the third the Cowboys played some small ball to push another run across. Cody Castro started the inning with a walk. Easton Garcia moved him to second on a sacrifice bunt that allowed Caporal to drive in Castro from second.
 
The Thunderwolves were on the board in the sixth as they cut the lead in half. They scored the run on a double play ball with a runner on third by Sauceda. It took some heroics in the bottom of the ninth by the Thunderwolves to extend the game.  With one out and a runner on third when Castaneda singled to right and tied the game.
 
The Thunderwolves put the Cowboys on edge in the 12th inning. The Thunderwolves had runners on second and third with two outs when Steven Bishop got Compton to go down looking and end the inning.
 
The Cowboys took the lead in the top of the 14th inning. Medina led things off with a single to left. Brian Chaparro laid one down to move Medina over to second. An error by the Thunderwolves' shortstop on a ball put in play by Joseph Cilladi allowed the Cowboys to have runners on the corners with no outs. Coach Shannon Hunt then pulled out the suicide squeeze with Castro at the plate and it worked to perfection as the run scored the Castro ended up at first. With the bases loaded Alvaro Gonzalez send a double to left field. The Cowboys led 5-2 heading into the bottom of the 14th.
 
The Cowboys allowed one run in the bottom half if the inning but Phil Trujillo got Sauceda to go down looking to end the game. Trujillo struck out three in the one inning save for the Cowboys.
 
Game 2
The second game was another low scoring affair, something unusual in the RMAC. The Cowboys took the second game by a score of 2-0.
 
The Cowboys were on the board in the bottom of the fourth inning. Gonzalez led things off with with a single up the middle and advanced to second on an error by the first baseman. Jeremey McCarty followed with a triple to right center and Gonzalez scored. After a Cowboys out Silvia hit a a fly ball out to center to score McCarty on the sacrifice fly.
 
The real story of the game was Joel Lamont's pitching performance. Lamont pitched a complete game shutout while giving up four hits and striking out 13 for his third win of the season.
 
The Cowboys and Thunderwolves will finish their series tomorrow with one game at noon.
