LAS VEGAS, N.M. --- The New Mexico Highlands volleyball team enjoyed the comforts of home for the first time all season last weekend, but the Cowgirls are back on the road as they travel to take on No. 23 Regis 7 p.m. Friday and Colorado Christian 5 p.m. Saturday.
LAST TIME OUT FOR COWGIRLS (5-8, 3-2) | SEASON STATS
The Cowgirls after 11 matches away from Las Vegas played their first two home matches of the season last weekend, falling to Black Hills State in four Friday and beating South Dakota School of Mines in four Saturday.
In the loss to Black Hills State, the Cowgirls opened strong as they took the first set 25-21, but dropped the next three to lose their home opener.
Tiffany Matchett paced NMHU with 13 kills and added 21 digs while
Camryn Nelson also had a double-double with 12 kills and 12 digs.
Celina Naranjo had a season-high 34 assists for the Cowgirls.
It was the opposite story in the victory over South Dakota School of Mines as NMHU lost the first game and went on to take the next three 26-24, 25-13 and 25-20. Nelson led the Cowgirls with 14 kills to go along with 12 digs while Matchett and
Cynthia Norris each had 10 kills with Matchett adding 18 digs.
On the season, Matchett leads the team at 2.5 kills per set, Naranjo leads NMHU at 4.92 assists per set and 14 aces,
Elena Rivera paces NMHU at 5.12 digs per set (third in the RMAC) and
Stacy Johnson leads at 0.62 blocks per set.
ABOUT NO. 23 REGIS (8-5, 4-1) | SEASON STATS
The Rangers have won their last four matches since dropping their RMAC opener to Colorado School of Mines, including a five-set win Saturday at in-city foe MSU Denver. Regis also owns wins over a pair of top-five ranked teams in Western Washington and Southwest Minnesota State this season. The Rangers are led by 5-foot-8 sophomore Caitlyn Burroway at 3.36 kills per set (fifth in the conference) and 6-foot-4 junior Nikki Kennedy at 3.15 kills per set. Kennedy is also second in the conference at 1.28 blocks per set while Silvia Basso tops the conference in assists per game at 11.27.
ABOUT COLORADO CHRISTIAN (4-10, 2-3) | SEASON STATS
The Cougars come into the weekend splitting a pair of matches on the road, beating Chadron State 3-2 and falling to MSU Denver 3-1. The win over Chadron State broke a mini three-game skid for CCU after opening RMAC play with a 3-1 win over UC Colorado Springs. The Cougars, despite their record, have played two top-10 teams to five sets in No. 8 Southwest Minnesota State and No. 3 Lewis University. CCU has three players averaging more than two kills per set in Jacey Johnson (2.5), Cali Bahnsen (2.49) and Katie Henry (2.15 - she's also sixth in hitting percentage at .315). Wylee Wurster is the team's primary setter at 9.47 assists per set - fifth in the conference.
