Cowboys hit the Road to take on Western Colorado

Las Vegas, NM --- The New Mexico Highlands football team looks to bounce from back-to-back loses as they travel to Gunnison, CO to take on Western Colorado at 1 pm at the Mountaineer Bowl.
 
ABOUT WESTERN COLORADO: The Mountaineers (5-4, 5-3 RMAC) are looking to win their third straight game as they have defeated Fort Lewis College (31-0) two weeks ago and Black Hills State (42-21) last weekend. The Mountaineers come in the weekend averaging 25.22 points per game with 11 rushing touchdowns and 1094 rushing yards. The Mountaineers have also thrown for 1667 total yards which includes 13 touchdowns. All together, the mountaineers have a total 2761 yards and 18 touchdowns.
 
The Mountaineers have split time with at their quarterback position as Luke Nethercot received the start last weekend and is 31-38 for 346 and five touchdowns on the season. James Bryant leads the team in receptions with 35 for 369 yards and Zach Manchester (18 receptions, 294 yards) and Kai Emmsley (21 receptions, 249 yards) will also look to aid the Mountaineers. On the ground, Ty Leyba will look to take most of the load as he has rushed for 479 yards and a touchdown and Josh Cummings leads the team with seven rushing touchdowns and 294 yards.
 
ABOUT THE COWBOYS: The Cowboys (1-7, 1-7 RMAC) come in the weekend searching for their second win of the season as they have dropped the last two games against South Dakota School of Mines (8-7) and Chadron State (41-7). The Cowboys are averaging just over 10 points per game and have rushed for 878 yards. The Cowboys have thrown for a total of 955 yards and thrown for 4 touchdowns.
 
The Cowboys have also been splitting time at their quarterback position as Ramone Atkins and Gunner Mefferd have both seen time under center. Atkins is 32 of 94 for 403 yards and Mefferd has thrown 24 of 72 for 394 yards. Donovan Hawkins has a team high 2 receiving touchdowns with 141 total yards and Emmanuel Lumanze (202 yards) and Antoine Thompson (55 yards). On the ground, James Budgett has a team high 389 yards and a team high 2 touchdowns. Shawntay Mills (183 yards) and Kam Mosby (93 yards, 1 touchdown) will also look to aid Budgett in the ground attack.
