LAS VEGAS, N.M. --- The New Mexico Highlands baseball team will have another four-game set at Brandt Field on Friday and Saturday after forecasted inclement weather in Hays, Kansas, pushed the Cowboys' series with Fort Hays State back to Las Vegas, New Mexico.
Both teams will be looking for their first victories of the season after the Cowboys dropped all four games to 10th-ranked West Texas A&M last weekend - including a one-run and a two-run loss.
Gaylan Young paced the Cowboys at the plate during the weekend, going 5-for-13 with a home run, triple and five RBI.
Auggie Francis also went 5-for-13 with a home run and five runs while
Jared Brown went 4-for-10 with two doubles and an RBI.
J.T. Mossberg was solid out of the bullpen for the Cowboys, tossing 2.1 scoreless innings against the Buffs.
James Janco had a strong start for NMHU as well, going 6.1 innings and giving up four runs on seven hits with two strikeouts.
Fort Hays is 0-1 on the season after falling to Northwestern Oklahoma 8-0 on Tuesday. The Tigers were held to six hits (Ryan Grasser went 2-for-4 to lead the way) while FHSU threw five pitchers - none more than two innings.
Each doubleheader Friday and Saturday are set for 11:30 a.m. starts. There is no charge to get into Brandt Field.
