Cowboys head to Colorado Springs for RMAC Pod Play

Las Vegas, NM --- The New Mexico Highlands baseball team looks to regain momentum as they head to Colorado Springs for the RMAC pod weekend against UCCS and Colorado School of Mines.

The Cowboys (5-11, 3-9 RMAC) have played the Mountain Lions in a four game series this year as the Cowboys took the first game against UCCS (8-4, 4-4 RMAC) 20-18, before dropping the next three games (6-21, 3-7, 7-8).  The Cowboys are led by Kalen Hammer who is hitting .423 on the year with eleven hits and eight RBI while Gaylan Young is right behind batting .345 with twenty hits and 16 RBI. Estevan De La O (.343 AVG) has a team high 23 hits and 17 RBI while Brandon Baier is batting .344 with eleven hits. The Cowboys as a team are batting .307 (6th in the RMAC) with 165 total hits, 108 RBI, and 19 homeruns.
 
On the mound, Hammer (0-2) leads the team with a 6.86 ERA while giving up 18 runs off 22 hits and 14 strikeouts. Jadrian Martinez (1-1) has an 8.39 ERA on the season after giving up 24 runs off 33 hits and a team high 21 strikeouts.
 
After dropping the first three games last weekend to #2 Colorado Mesa, UCCS won game four against the Mavericks 6-5. On the season, the Mountain Lions are hitting .348 with 111 RBI and 35 homeruns while their opponents are batting .330. Jaeden Hegmann leads the team batting .435 with 20 hits and 12 RBI while Kiichi Sato isn't far behind batting 4.29 with 18 hits, 7 homeruns, and 17 RBI. UCCS pitching is led by Daniel Silva (2-1) with a 3.63 ERA and giving up 20 hits with a team high 20 strikeouts in over 22 innings pitched this season.
 
Colorado School of Mines (1-11, 1-11 RMAC) lone win of the season came last weekend in game four against CSU Pueblo. You can expect to see Danny McDermott (.324 AVG, 11 hits), Wayne Moeck (.310 AVG, 9 RBI), and I-ly Hsue (.300 AVG, 12 hits) to lead the way for the Orediggers offensively, while Drew Hill (0-3, 8.78 ERA) and Ben Schoneman (0-2, 12.27 ERA) will look to lead the Orediggers on the mound.
 
The Cowboys are scheduled to for four 9-inning games this weekend as all games will be streamed live and stats will be available here.
 
Spectators will be allowed to attend games this weekend at Mountain Lion Park in Colorado Springs. Capacity is limited so fans should arrive early to guarantee a ticket. Admission will be charged at the gate with cash only expected. Those in attendance must wear masks and stay within their family groups while socially distanced from others. Once the park reaching capacity, the gates will be closed to spectators.
