Box Score ALVA, Okla. --- The New Mexico Highlands baseball team led going into the ninth, but lost on a walk-off grand slam to Northwestern Oklahoma State 10-6 Sunday.
The Cowboys (0-6) trailed heading into the ninth 5-2 before scoring four runs in the top half of the inning on a three-run, game-tying double by
Nathan Vetter and a go-ahead RBI single to right by
Gavin Gifford.
However, the Rangers led the inning off with a home run from Norsen to tie the game before loading the bases and Kelly hitting a grand slam to end the game.
Allan Salas went 2-for-5 with a double and two RBI for NMHU,
Estevan De La O went 2-for-5 with a double and
Jared Brown went 2-for-4 with a double.
Aiden Taylor got th start for the Cowboys, going three innings and giving up three runs (two earned) on four hits with one strikeouts.
Angel Castillo (2.0),
Hunter Vancurler (1.1) and
John Slape (0.2) combined to throw four innings of hitless ball in relief.
Kalen Hammer got the loss, giving up seven runs (five earned) on five hits with a walk.
NMHU returns to Las Vegas to play its home opener 1 p.m. Friday against Wayland Baptist - the first of a four-game set (two games Saturday, another on Sunday).
