GUNNISON, Colo. --- New Mexico Highlands'
Kaitlyn Scott set a school record in the weight throw and took second place to highlight the Cowgirls' effort on the first day of the RMAC Indoor Track and Field Championships.
Scott took second after a throw of 17.97 meters - finishing behind only Kyla Sawvell of Black Hills State (18.87). Overall, Scott set PRs during the event - eventually setting a personal record by more than two feet.
The NMHU distance medley relay team of
Nieves Pacheco, Hilary Udechekwu,
Lucia Harrison and
Faith Lovato set a school record with a time of 13 minutes, 14 seconds (beating the old record by two seconds) to finish seventh (the RMAC currently holds six of the top 20 teams in the event in the nation).
Beatrice Armijo set a personal record in the pentathlon with 2,680 points to take seventh - including setting a personal record in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 9.33 seconds.
"We did about all we could -- I hoped for finalists in the 200 and 400 and we didn't come through there, but Katy Scott and our DMR came up big with school records and
Beatrice Armijo proved once again she's a warrior," NMHU coach
Bob DeVries said.
The championships conclude Saturday in Gunnison.
