Jared Brown blasted two home runs, added a double and drove in five to help lead the Cowboys past UCCS 17-4 Friday night at Jim Darden Field in a non-RMAC contest.
Brown started the NMHU scoring with an RBI double in the first then added two home runs and four RBI in the Cowboys' eight-run sixth inning to finish 3-for-5.
The Cowboys trailed 4-1 heading to the fourth inning before a five-run frame highlighted by a three-run
Cobe Lehman homer gave NMHU a 6-4 advantage as the Cowboys scored 16 unanswered runs to pull away from the Mountain Lions.
Lehman finished the game 2-for-4 with a double, homer and four RBI as he and Brown were the only Cowboys with multiple hits as NMHU took advantage of 10 walks and three hit batters given out by UCCS.
Hunter Waugh was strong on the mound for the Cowboys, going five innings and giving up four runs (only one earned) on four hits with nine strikeouts and three walks.
Jadrian Martinez gave up just one hit over the final two innings - striking out six to account for all the outs in his outing.
NMHU returns to action Saturday as it takes on Colorado School of Mines at noon before facing UCCS again at 3 p.m.
