New Mexico Highlands University's
Faith Lovato and cross-country All American Andrew Amor each raced their way to new school recordsĀ Friday morning at the Bryan Clay Invitational in Asuza, CA.
Amor began the day by blasting his own 10K record set a year ago at the Long Beach Invite. The junior from Australia ran 29:36 to take an whopping 30 seconds off his previous best. Amor's time would rank in the top ten nationally among DII runners for the '23 season. Amor placed fourth in the Open 10k event.
Not to be outdone, Lovato followed up by chopping 14 seconds off the 5k school record previously held by
Theresa Moser. Lovato's 17:32 is a personal best by more than 20 seconds and moves her into the top ten on the distance-heavy RMAC performance list. Lovato placed ninth in her race.Ā
"We've been pointing to these races for a couple months," noted HU head coach
Bob DeVries, "It's gratifying to see the hard training pay off with record breaking performances."
The Bryan Clay Invitational, hosted by Asuza Pacific University, has become one of the premier track and field meets in the country over the past decade. This year's meet attracted overĀ 1,000 entries in the men's and women's 5 and 10k events alone from more than 50 teams across the country.
