LAS VEGAS, NM—New Mexico Highlands University is pleased to announce Harry Estep as its baseball coach. Estep comes to NMHU after six years in the Luna Community College baseball program, where he worked as the Rough Riders' head coach last season. Estep climbed the coaching ladder during his tenure at LCC, serving as the pitching coach, strength/conditioning coach, assistant recruiter, and student-athlete success coordinator.
Â
Estep was the clear choice among a group of candidates following NMHU's national search for its next coach.
Â
"Harry is a bright coach who possesses the technical skills to recruit and develop talented student-athletes," NMHU Co-Athetic Director Shanna Halalio said. "We're excited to bring on board someone who is established in the community and understands the value that NMHU Baseball can bring to Las Vegas."
Â
"I'm excited to see what Harry can accomplish here," Co-Athletic Director Jim Deisler. "I believe his energy and work ethic will shine through our program, both on and off the field."
Â
Estep looks to infuse the Cowboys' program with energy. "Energy–that's the first word that comes to mind," Estep said. "We're going to get after it and we're going to do so with a sense of purpose."
Â
Estep will bring modern technology and analytics as well as an old-school work ethic to the position. "We're going to employ every tool at our disposal to help our student athletes develop into the players, students, and people they want to become," Estep said. "That being said, our players are going to work hard. That's going to be the expectation here. For us to become what we're capable of becoming as a program, we're going to have to put in the work."
