NMHU Women’s Cross Country Races Against Tough Field In Colorado

The NMHU Women's Cross Country Team started the 2023 season at the 16th Annual UCCS Rust Buster with a 5th place finish. The Cowgirls posted 143 points in their season opener.

The Cowgirls raced today without their top runner Faith Lovato and projected scorer Josey French, both are expected back for the team's next race in two weeks.

Sophomore Gracey Lovato led the way for the Cowgirls by finishing the 5k course in 18:56.0, good for a 16th place. Today marked her first race action for Highlands after transferring from Western New Mexico University.

"Gracey stayed with a pack of runners who have been at nationals for most of the race. She'll get stronger and have Faith back to help pull her along in Missouri," said Head Coach Bob DeVries.
