Las Vegas, New Mexico - New Mexico Highlands had its two home game home winning streak snapped by nationally ranked Colorado School of Mines 56-21 on Saturday afternoon at Sanchez Family Stadium.
The Cowboys are now 2-7 overall and 2-5 in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference play.
NMHU drew first blood on Saturday as freshman
Tevita Valeti scored on a 21 yard touchdown run that capped a six play, 68 yard drive. The drive was set-up when the Cowboys defense forced its first of two turnovers on the afternoon and
Damonte Campbell recovered an Oredigger fumble.
The Cowboys added a pair of fourth quarter scores on touchdown receptions by
Armani Sheriff and
Mike Jones from
Joey Cave.
Cave was 9 of 18 for 160 yards and a pair of touchdowns throwing the ball. He added 99 yards rushing on 17 carries.
Tevita Valeti had 48 yards and a score on the ground.
Teneil Nichols led all receivers on Saturday with eight grabs for 165 yards.
Defensively,
Trenton Johnson led the Cowboys with eight tackles.
Jagger Mosqueda had an interception in the second quarter.
Up next, the Cowboys play their final road game of 2024 next Saturday as they are in Durango for a 12:00 pm match-up with Fort Lewis College.
