Sacramento, California - Freshman
Weldon Chebon's season was capped off with All-American honors at the NCAA Division II Championships this morning at the Arcade Creek Cross Country Course.
Chebon completed the 10k course in a time of 30:14.8 good for a 26th place finish to secure All-American status.
"Very gritty performance by Weldon today," said NMHU Head Coach Bob DeVries. "The course was sloppy after three straight days of record-setting rains which made for some tough conditions."
Midway through the race Chebon found himself among the race leaders on Saturday.
"Weldon threw in a surge at 7k and was racing in the top ten with just over a mile to go but he ran out of gas over the last 1K," said DeVries. "But he held on to an All American spot, and that's pretty tough for a first time at nationals. I know he's a little bit disappointed, but he's bringing home an All American medal and is already talking about next year."
Chebon's finish today marks the fourth consecutive year that DeVries had coached one of his runners to All-American status as
Andrew Amor earned honors in 2021, 2022, and 2023.
