Albuquerque, New Mexico - The Cowgirls were at the Don Kirby Invitational and had another strong performance as a new team record was set and several personal bests were recorded over the weekend.
The highlight of the weekend was the Cowgirls 4x400 relay team establishing a new school record on Saturday afternoon.
Nadine Rose,
Ashley Barrett,
Kacian Powell, and
Lucia Harrison ran a 3:46.03 which is the second fastest time in the RMAC this season and places them squarely in consideration for the NCAA Division II Championships.
From Coach
Bob DeVries after the team established the new school record, "This group showed heart and grit -
Nadine Rose was scratched from the open 400 the day before with a slight injury,
Ashley Barrett is a short sprinter, not a 400 runner,
Kacian Powell was not feeling well and
Lucia Harrison ran the 800 less than an hour before anchoring the relay -- they knew we needed to race faster and they came through."
The previous NMHU 4x400 record was 3:46.71 set by Kristen Montano, Salcia Slack, Stefani Gyamfi, and Velma Morant in 2015.
Additional highlights from the team's weekend:
- Patreece Clarke set a personal best in the 60m at 7.69.
- Emma Hurren posted a third consecutive week of improved time in the 800m (2:31.96).
- Josey French posted a personal best in the 3000m and the Mile.
- Rojrika Campbell went 5.52m in the long jump for the 8th best mark in the RMAC this season.
- Kacian Powell, in her first ever collegiate 200m, ran a 25.33 which is Top 10 in the RMAC this season.
The Cowgirls now set their sights on the RMAC Indoor Championships scheduled for February 23rd and 24th in Spearfish, South Dakota.
