Track And Field At Texas Tech This Weekend

Las Vegas, New Mexico - The New Mexico Highlands track and field team will be in Lubbock to compete in the Masked Rider Open at Texas Tech University.

Friday's events in Lubbock will be focused on the throws portion of the meet with the javelin, hammer throw and shot put beginning at 11:00 am (MT) on a rolling schedule.

"Our throwers were very successful in the season opener, so we're taking them to Texas Tech which will be an upgrade in competition for Katy, Nina and Lucia," said head coach Bob DeVries before the team left for Lubbock.

On Saturday morning the events get under way on the track at 8:20 am (MT) with the 5000m run.

"We're also racing some middle distance athletes. Gracey Lovato is going to race for the first time since cross country in the 1500m and Emma Hurren will try for another collegiate best in the 800m she's gotten faster every race," said DeVries.

NMHU will have several members of the men's cross country team competing in the event as well. "Our men will take on a very strong field in the 5k, with Andrew Amor taking a shot at a sub 14 clocking and another school record. He'll be joined by Celso Garcia and Edgar Hernandez," continued DeVries.
