Pittsburg, Kansas - Patreece Clarke and Ashley Barrett are the newest All-Americans for New Mexico Highlands University.Â
Clarke grabbed her second consecutive indoor All-American honor in the 60 hurdles, placing seventh in one of the fastest indoor finals in DII history. Clarke ran 8.52, her season - best, and was just four-hundreths of a second from fourth place.Â
"That was a fast, fast, fast, final," noted HU coach Bob DeVries, "I actually thought she was fifth from my vantage point, it was so close."
Barrett cemented her ranking as the top freshman sprinter in the country in qualifying for Saturday's final. Barrett placed eighth in a field of juniors and seniors to take home her first All American award.Â
"Ashley knows she belongs on the national stage now. We are all very excited to see what happens outdoors," said DeVries.
The HU head coach gave praise to assistant coaches Damia Russell and
Shereca Hemmings for getting the two to the national meet.
 Â
"They do the hard work, the daily grind of training and preparing and getting our athletes ready to compete at the highest level. I'm blessed to have them on our staff.
"Â
With the indoor season concluded, the HU women have little time to rest.
"We have our first outdoor meet next week in Colorado. It doesn't stop," said DeVries.
The Cowgirls are scheduled to compete at the CSU-Pueblo Early Bird Invite on March 15 and 16.
