Cowgirls Fall At UCCS On Thursday Night

Colorado Springs, Colorado - UCCS used a strong second half to pull away from the Cowgirls on Thursday night 77-65. The loss dropped NMHU's record to 7-8 overall and 4-5 in conference play.

The Cowgirls led by as many as eight points early in Thursday's opening quarter, but the host Mountain Lions took the lead for good at the 3:42 mark of the quarter. NMHU outscored UCCS 14-9 in the second quarter and only trailed by one, 32-31, at the halftime break. The second half, however, saw the hosts pull away as they outscored BNHU 45-34 in the final two quarters.

Kapiolani Anitielu was the leading scorer for the Cowgirls with 19 points. Eva Ongoongotau added 15 points and six rebounds.

Aniya Johnson was the leading rebounder for NMHU with eight.

On the night, the Cowgirls shot 37.5% from the floor and a season's best 91.7% from the free throw line.

UCCS held a slight edge on the boards, out rebounding NMHU 33-31.

UCCS wil be in Las Vegas on February 22nd for a 1:00 pm meeting with the Cowgirls.

The Cowgirls head down I-25 to play CSU-Pueblo on Saturday afternoon at 1:00 pm. The ThunderWolves beat Adams State 77-60 this evening.
